One of my favorite places to hike (or walk) here in Los Angeles is at Griffith Park. I like to go in the Ferndell entrance (drive North on Western until it ends, in the Los Feliz area). I can take the pups there, and we all get a good bit of cardio. You can walk up all the way to the observatory and receive the most stunning views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign.
It's a beautiful hike that goes straight up, so bring lots of water, wear a hat and don't neglect the sunscreen! You'll want a nice hearty breakfast afterward!
